SPECIAL EVENT
To begin the Hobbiton Christmas festivities, you will have the chance to experience Middle-earth as you have never seen it before; with a fully guided tour of the Shire™ at dusk. You will journey past Bag End, explore the interiors of a Hobbit Hole™ on Bagshot Row and into the world-famous Green Dragon™ Inn.
Your tour will conclude at the masterfully recreated Inn and waiting for you will be a festive mulled beverage to get you in the Christmas spirit. With your beverage in hand, relax inside by the two indoor fireplaces or enjoy the warm summer evening and explore the Bywater Beer Garden overlooking the movie set. Inside the Green Dragon Inn be sure to check out the Christmas tree which may even offer the delight of some festive treats!
Outside the Inn, immerse yourself in the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of the Bywater Marketplace. Sample some tasty morsels from the individually themed stalls as you listen to the themed entertainer before being escorted up to the Party Marquee for a Christmas buffet dinner. As you step inside the fully themed yellow canvas marquee, where the vibrant bunting and colourful lanterns allow you to be immersed in the festive magic of the movies, a buffet dinner full of traditional Hobbit fare will be waiting for you to fill your bottomless bellies, and as is the tradition in the Shire, second helpings are encouraged.
Throughout the evening you can enjoy our exclusive Southfarthing™ range of beers, cider or ginger beer alongside our selection of wines.
To conclude this premium Hobbiton Movie Set experience, after dinner you will re-join your guide and make your way back through the wandering paths of Hobbiton. The trails will be illuminated to help light the way. This stunning journey under moonlight will travel through the village breathtakingly lit up with Hobbit Hole chimney’s smoking and lanterns glowing against the darkness.

Follow your guide to the Party Marquee for your buffet dinner bursting with traditional festive fare - and, as is tradition in the Shire, second helpings are encouraged!
Drinks will continue to be available throughout the evening from the Bar within the Marquee.

What is included in the price of my ticket?
The special event ticket price includes a fully guided walking tour through the 12-acre Movie Set, all catering, beverages and themed entertainment for the evening. Please refer to the specific event page for more information on what is included at each event.

How far in advance can I book tickets for a special event?

If I have friends or family booked on a separate tour departure from me, will I be able to join up with them after the guided tour?
If you have friends or family booked on a separate tour departure from your own, you will be able to meet up with them at the conclusion of the guided tour. If the special event you have booked has a seated dinner, we can arrange for you to be seated with your friends or family from a separate tour.

Can I book one of your special events for a large group/work function?
For groups of 20 guests or more booking onto one of our Special Events, we ask that you Contact the team directly to make your booking. We have a 30-day cancellation period for groups of this size. If cancelled outside of 30 days, a full refund will be provided. If cancelled within 30 days, no refund will be given.

Can I amend my booking date or receive a refund if I cannot attend?
If your travel plans change and you need to amend the date or time of your booking you can do this by contacting our reservations team here.
If you wish to cancel your special event booking, a full refund can be provided if cancelled at least 7 days prior to the event date. Special event bookings cancelled less than 7 days prior to the event date will not receive a refund.

Can I leave the event early if I wish?
If you require to leave the event early, please notify our team upon check-in and we can arrange a shuttle to return guests to The Shires Rest (main car park). If you have booked a Matamata Information Centre departure, you will not be able to leave the event early, unless you make your own travel arrangements from The Shires Rest.
No discounts apply if leaving the event early.

Will the event go ahead in wet weather?
Special event tours and activities will operate in all weather conditions. In the event of rain, umbrellas are provided at the entrance to the Movie Set. In the event of extreme weather conditions, Hobbiton Movie Set reserves the right to make alternative arrangements.

What is the difference between The Shires Rest and the Matamata Information Centre departures?
If you are self-driving or making your own transport arrangements to Hobbiton Movie Set, you should book a tour departure from The Shires Rest. If you require transport to and from Hobbiton to attend a special event, complimentary transfers are available from the Matamata Information Centre only, please book a Matamata Information Centre departure for this option.
