Hamilton: At a leisurely 45 minute drive from Matamata, you’ll reach Hamilton. This is the largest city in the Waikato, best known for its sports stadium, the beautiful Hamilton Gardens, the zoo, fantastic shopping, art galleries and public art works, a bustling restaurant and bar scene, plus many popular festivals and events. There is never a dull moment in Hamilton!
Cambridge: Picturesque and historical Cambridge can be reached within 20 minutes from Matamata. This beautiful tree lined town has gained international acclaim as it is famous for thoroughbreds and horse racing. An array of sport stars call Cambridge home, including a number of Olympic Gold medal winners. It’s a delightful place to visit.
Te Aroha: In just under half an hour from Matamata, you’ll reach beautiful Te Aroha. This was one of New Zealand’s first tourist destinations, offering therapeutic mineral baths and fantastic scenery. There are fantastic bushwalks and heritage trails to follow and the church has the oldest pipe organ in the Southern Hemisphere. Aroha means ‘love’ in the Maori language and Te Aroha truly is a lovable place.
